Partial Hospitalization Program in Utah

PHP is a structured outpatient level of care for people who need substantial treatment during the day but do not need to live at the center. At Traverse Recovery Center, an assessment helps decide whether PHP fits your needs, whether residential care should come first, or whether IOP provides enough support.

Who might choose PHP?

PHP can fit someone who needs more than a few weekly sessions but can safely spend evenings outside treatment. It may follow residential care or serve as a starting point when an assessment supports it. The stability of home, current symptoms, and support outside treatment all matter.

How is PHP different from residential care?

Residential clients live at the 12-bed Bluffdale facility. PHP clients take part in structured treatment without staying overnight. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism describes PHP and IOP as coordinated outpatient care, with residential care provided in a 24-hour setting.

What if symptoms are changing?

Care needs can change. If someone needs the protection of a residential setting, PHP may not be enough. If treatment needs become less intense, IOP may be a next step. The plan should respond to the person, not a fixed schedule.

Can you keep working during PHP?

Work may be possible for some people, but PHP takes a substantial part of the day. The exact TRC schedule and any work arrangements need to be confirmed with admissions. Ask about hours before making plans with an employer.

How do you start?

Contact admissions to discuss an assessment, location and hours, and your insurance or payment options. TRC does not provide medical detox on site. If it is needed first, we can discuss placement with a partner provider.

Questions people ask

Do PHP clients live at TRC?

No. PHP is an outpatient level of care. Confirm the current session location and hours with admissions.

Is PHP the same as IOP?

No. PHP generally involves more treatment time than IOP. The right level depends on assessment.

Does PHP require detox first?

Only when medically supervised withdrawal is needed. TRC coordinates outside detox placement rather than providing it on site.
